Southern German Private Collection. In the last years of his life, Mercator published several maps in a total of three deliveries, which were part of the cosmography project. As a compilation, the so-called atlas, which was to represent contemporary geography, was published only posthumously in 1595. In addition to the actual maps, which were also engraved by the cartographer's children and grandchildren, the work also contains a detailed creation report from Mercator's hand. The Mercator biography from Walter Ghim was also printed here. In addition, there are other tributes from companions and friends. The work quickly went through new editions and formed the basis for the Mercator-Hondius atlas of the 17th century.
